The Mill Road PTA Green Committee's sets goal for "waste free lunch"
To reduce the use of disposable water bottles, juice boxes and disposable plastic bags, the PTA has ordered 12-ounce re-usable water bottles and 'wrap-n-mats.' Items are being sold at cost and not as a fund raiser. The $6 water bottles have the PTA logo and are BPA-free. The wrap-n-mats are $4 and double as a place mat. The PTA will be selling the bottles and mats at upcoming school events. New this year: Zero Waste Party Packs - Available in the K-2 and 3-5 break rooms, teachers can now borrow a Party Pack to have a low waste classroom party. Each set of dishwasher safe, BPA-free (24) plates, forks and spoons and (4) knives is in a convenient-to-carry tote with handle. Kids can take the dirty dishes home for a quick wash in the dishwasher and then returned the next day for another classroom to borrow. We hope to collect plastic cups from families over the next few weeks and add them to the sets. These 2009-10 initiatives build upon the committee's success last year in implementing building-wide recycling. We are sorry that we are not able to continue last year's wonderful waste-composting program which fed the chickens at Awesome Farms! The PTA Executive Committee is eager to echo these efforts. We pledge to make every attempt to increase the use of email for communication, and send fewer notices home on paper. Only those families who provide email addresses to PTA will receive many of our important notices. Don't miss out! Please give us your email address when filling out your membership form, or signing up for the student directory!
